Þegar Icy-flokkurinn steig á stokk í Bergen ’86 varð Ísland hljótt. Bílvélar þögnuðu, skip lágu við akkeri og kettir hættu að mjálma. Sama var uppá teningunum í gærkvöld, þegar Þjóðverjar mættu Ítölum í undanúrslitum HM (sem á þýsku kallast helmingsúrslit, í takt við fjórðungs- og áttungsúrslitin þeirra).

Við Rúna búum í frekar lifandi hverfi. Hér stöðug umferð fólks og bíla, kvölds og morgna. Skemmtistaðir og krár umkringja okkur, þannig að ekki skortir gesti í hverfið okkar áfangastaðina. Í gærkvöld brá hinsvegar öðru við.

Klukkan 21 að staðartíma þögnuðu göturnar. Í stað þess að þurfa að yfirgnæfa bílanið höfðu hátalarar knæpunnar bara náttmyrkrið. Hjólreiðamenn og gangandi hurfu sömuleiðis. Eina lífsmarkið var fyrir framan þær þúsundir skjáa sem ljómuðu — eina hljóðið kliðurinn þegar skot var varið.

Tveimur tímum síðar gólaði borgin í sameiningu þegar landsliðið tapaði. Hörðustu menn (og þeir voru býsna harðir á knæpunni okkar) táruðust. Stuttu seinna sást fólk aftur aka bílum.
