Morð í beinni?

Ein BBC-sjónvarpstöðvanna er farin að sýna ansi áhugaverða þáttaröð undir heitinu ‘Kill it, cook it, eat it’. Þarna er á ferðinni enginn venjulegur matreiðsluþáttur, því hráefninu er fylgt eftir frá því að það er spriklandi í sveitinni og þar til það liggur á fínum diski með kartöflum og sósu. Þannig er verið að vekja athygli fólks á því hvaðan maturinn sem það lætur ofan í sig kemur – ekki bara frá Tesco heldur er ferlið miklu, miklu lengra.

Í síðasta þætti voru litlu lömbin tekin fyrir, leidd til slátrunar í beinni og svo matreidd ofan í gesti í sjónvarpssal. Ýmiss konar fólk var þar saman komið, grænmetisætur sem brustu í grát við ófagra sjónina og hörðustu kjötætur sem sleiktu út um við tilhugsunina að fá að smakka ólíka parta lambsins.

Einn þessara parta var Íslendingnum kunnugur – hrútspungurinn sjálfur. En ólíkt því sem gerist á þorrablótunum gerði kokkurinn sér lítið fyrir og djúpsteikti herlegheitin. Mér fannst þetta bara líta nokkuð vel út í stökkum, gulum umbúðunum, ótrúlegt en satt.

En þarna er náttúrulega komin fyrirtaks markaðshugmynd: hvernig væri að bjóða Bretanum upp á djúpsteikta hrútspunga með frönskum í staðinn fyrir þetta sífellda ‘fish and chips’ sem allir hljóta að vera komnir með leið á? Skvetta smá ediki yfir og allir eru sáttir?
